BK Statistics
In the 1960’s, SPM Bible Knowledge (BK) was available for both Form 3 and Form 5 students. Many thousands of students took BK during the national examinations. The numbers dropped steadily until 1994 when the subject was suspended.
In 1995, BK was reinstated for Form 5 students only and around 20 candidates took BK in the SPM. If the number of candidates is not sufficiently large, there is always the risk that the authorities may withdraw the subject by giving the reason that it is not economically feasible.
The total number of SPM candidates in 2005 was over 438,000 with BK candidates comprising a mere 0.13% (or about 600 candidates) of the total. MCSC has set a target of 3,000 BK candidates by 2010. In order to achieve the target, more teachers are needed.
More lives will be touched by the Word of God with an increase in the number of BK candidates.
