The SPM BK Oral Quiz for SPM BK candidates was instituted in 1997 when 36 students from Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya gathered at SMK Bukit Bintang, PJ to compete for the Elena Cooke Trophy. The following year, the number of teams increased from 12 in the inaugural year to 19 and the David Boler Trophy was added for Selangor. Since then, the SPM BK Oral Quiz has entered its 11th year and draws over 150 teams from all over Malaysia competing for a total of 8 trophies.

Officially known as the National SPM Bible Knowledge Quiz, this event is organized by the MCSC in partnership with a group of teachers and educationists. The Quiz is held every year on the first Saturday of August and is divided into several parts with a multiple choice question paper as the preliminary round and ending with a final between the leading teams. Ms Moey Yoke Lai, the CEO of Methodist College Kuala Lumpur and former principal of SM (B) Methodist Kuala Lumpur have played the role of chief judge for the past many years.

The Oral Quiz plays an important role in improving the students’ knowledge of the Gospel According to Luke and the Acts of the Apostles. In additional, this event helps to prepare the SPM candidates to sit for the BK paper in the year-end examinations. The Oral Quiz also adds an extra element to the SPM BK subject as students interact in a competitive environment while strengthening their foundation in God’s Word.
